HKE0252 Kish 2002 Neela of India Doll, Book Set, American Girls
This is a 9 inch vinyl artist doll, Neela, of the of Girls of Many Lands Collection by American Girl, which includes an all original doll, doll stand, and the paperback book, 'Neela: Victory Song', by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. Helen Kish designed this doll. The doll, Neela, has dark coloring, brunette hair drawn back in a very long braid with a gardenia flower, painted brown eyes, and golden earrings. She is wearing an elaborate long silk orange sari with silver accents, a golden necklace, and other silver and gold jewelry including arm and ankle bracelets. The preowned set comes mint and sealed inside its original heavy cardboard box that opens like a book to reveal the doll on one side and the book on the other. The doll has her hang tag. This doll, as others in this collection did not come with undergarments as she was intended for display. She represents a girl in India in the 1930s when it struggled for freedom after over 200 years of British rule. Her outfit its a wedding costume for her sister's wedding when Neela was 12 years old and recognized as a woman. The box has minor dings on the edge, but has never been opened.
